About Tin Man Films
Based in the North-East of England, Tin Man Films was founded in 2011 by Jan Cawood, a creative producer and director whose love of cinematic aesthetics and visual storytelling were fuelled by her BA (Hons) degree in the History of Art, Design & Film. With over 10 years industry experience in corporate PR and marketing, she now combines her twin passions of film making with audience development and distribution.
Jan has produced and directed several films for TV, festivals and brands. Her beautiful short film 55 Seconds about a Victorian seaside lift which reveled in both the mechanical ballet of the lift and the lives that come together in its short journeys was a prize winner at Open City Docs and screened at Sheffield Documentary Festival. Her branded documentary A Jacket for Life which captures people’s emotional attachment to their 30 year old Barbour jackets has also been endorsed by some of the world’s leading lifestyle bloggers and received over 200,000 hits.
Jan has recently produced her first major feature length film, Addicted to Sheep by debut director Magali Pettier. This beautifully shot observational documentary, which charts a year in the life of a hill-farming family as they try to breed the perfect sheep, has been widely praised for the passion and integrity with which this independent production has been crafted and developed. Following a successful crowd funding campaign in 2014 Addicted to Sheep had a World Premiere at Sheffield Doc Fest in 2015 where it sold out and was one of the official festival hits.
Critically acclaimed by high profile media and international bloggers, with ★★★★ reviews from Mark Kermode, The Observer, Empire, Daily Mail following its cinema release on August 28 2015 at London’s PictureHouse Central the film is on a successful indie nationwide UK tour. The hour long TV cut of Addicted to Sheep screened on BBC4 in February 2016 to an above average audience with 85% satisfaction rating and ★★★★ reviews in The Times and Daily Mail. It was subsequently rescheduled on BBC4 in May 2015. The team also picked up a Royal Television Society award for the 85 min cut of Addicted to Sheep in February 2016.
